The library's mission is to support the pedagogical activities and research, through the information processing and disclosure.
Its collection reflects the changes that have taken place in the social work education and recently on social gerontology education. It's recognized as a specialized library on Social Work field. The richness of its archive evidence the following knowledge areas: Social Work, Psychology, Sociology, Economics, Statistics, Law, Philosophy, History, Education, Anthropology and Ethnology. The documental compilation consists of monographs, periodicals, master's dissertations, doctoral theses and non-book material.
The library is cooperating with PORBASE - Base Nacional de Dados Bibliográficos and all documents are free accessible.
The monographs organization is carried out according to the UDC - Universal Decimal Classification that allows the storage of documents by knowledge areas, following the sequential numbering. The periodic publications are organized by alphabetical order of titles.
