Based on the institutional diagnosis made, the aim is for the student to be able to propose and introduce organizational changes, with direct or indirect implications for the management of the organization or the provision of care, which will improve the quality of life of older people.
At the end of the course, the student is expected to be able to: (1) Use theoretical knowledge to study organizations and design organizational change projects. (2) Involve older people, family and carers as members of the care/support team in decision-making and service planning. (3) Design and implement activities, projects or services that introduce positive changes in institutional functioning and place the older person at the heart of the organization. (4) Continually evaluate and improve the action devices implemented and the impact of interventions on improving institutional functioning and the ageing processes of individuals.
1. The construction of theoretical hypotheses about the main problems related to the functioning of institutions (e.g. difficulty in providing personalized, quality care; emotional disinvestment in older people and in building meaningful relationship networks; insufficient training and human resources; architectural and accessibility difficulties; disinvestment in the autonomy and decision-making capacity of older people).
2. The definition of operational hypotheses leading to the minimization of problems (e.g. programmes that encourage, among other areas, intergenerational exchange, cultural upliftment and lifelong learning, physical stimulation, health, training for carers, dignified personal care, the involvement of older people in the management of institutional daily life; multidisciplinary teamwork).
3. Justification of proposals, methodologies, resources and evaluation
The contents of the syllabus are selected in such a way as to cover all the subjects involved and are consistent with the main objectives of the course.

The aim of this curricular unit is for students to have the opportunity to observe and debate problems inherent in practice, translating theoretical knowledge into action programs, which are constantly being improved. As such, this curricular unit is made up of theoretical and practical seminars, based on pedagogical strategies that encourage active learning and the problematization of the experiences observed during internships. In addition to the presentation of content using conventional and multimedia elements, brainstorming techniques will be used to promote debates, group work on actions to be planned and developed during the internship, as well as simulation/role-playing to train skills aimed at dealing with real situations. Research and critical analysis of written and/or audiovisual material (e.g. scientific articles, guidance manuals, documentaries) will also be used in this course.
